Top 10 Observations: Week of April 19th, 2024

By May 16, 2024 No Comments

Hello,

This week in Canada, the focal point was the budget, with insightful articles from The Globe and Mail (G&M) and BNN attached. Jim Thorne shared his critical views (attached), representing a significant portion of those unimpressed with this year’s budget.

To add to the Budget story, the tech sector provided some warning signals that it will stymie entrepreneurship. While Tim Cestnick provided an overview of how the changes will effect average Canadians.

Additionally, Jim Thorne was featured on a notable podcast discussing sovereign debt concerns, echoed by a former Big Five Bank CEO who predicts funding challenges for provinces and municipalities.

Despite prevailing negativity, Brian Belski identifies Canada as a promising contrarian market amidst global uncertainty. As my mentor always says: ”sell things everyone wants and buy things that people cannot believe you even bring up.”

Providing a broader view, Louis Vincent Gave and David Hay collaborate to forecast an inflation rebound and its market repercussions.

The expanding public service garners attention, particularly through G&M’s comprehensive analysis highlighting its economic implications.

For those curious about the Victoria House Market, insights from House Hunt Victoria offer valuable perspectives.

Bill Maher’s recent commentary stirred significant discussion. Bruce Dowbiggin closed his weekly piece talking about what Bill said:

‘Which is why so many Canadian were shocked last week when American AntiTrump media star Bill Maher did an intervention on Canadian conceits. Using the True North as his warning to America, Maher ripped apart the gauzy leftist dream of Canada as the perfect society, the Sweden north of Estevan. By the time he was done, the single-payer myth was bleeding on the ground. Maher knows that the bill is coming due for free-spending Canada and its climate charlatans. (The IMF is already warning of a global crisis over debt loads.) The question is: will Canadians come to the same conclusion before it’s too late to save the cities?’

The wake-up call is coming everywhere across Canada and if we don’t deal with things quickly, the pain will be immense and generations ahead will suffer even more.
