Hello
Markets are challenging these days and especially in Canada where weaker commodity prices and a lack of international interest is not helping things.
With that in mind, I included the Market Insights piece from Jim Thorne, and he says to pay attention to what millennials want. I also included a G&M article from the always wise Tom Bradley. My good friend tells us to cut through the noise and provides three main recommendations.
I also added the most common investment mistakes from Visual Capital.
There is a lot happening in the real estate markets as new construction is coming to a halt and homeowners are dealing with the higher mortgage rates. Steve Saretsky’s piece is timely.
Countries like Canada depend on immigration to promote economic growth and the piece included include reasons why people go to the US. There must be some similar reasons to come to Canada and from a trade perspective, Canada like many other nations is focusing on the Indo-Pacific region. It is not he Asia-Pacific region anymore as India and Indonesia have taken over form China and Hong Kong as the main areas to enhance relationships with. The chart below shows you some interesting stats on this region.
To give you a glimpse of the emerging powerhouse of India, look who is buying the most planes.
Do you remember my comments about the $1.7 million EV Fire Truck the City of Victoria bought. Well, I must include what New York has decided to do about their EV Snowplows. This space is changing, and I also hear that Ford may be stopping production of the EV F150 as they are losing so much money. It costs $40,000 for a new battery on those big trucks. Ram is going to a hybrid model for their trucks, and it looks like Toyota had it right from day one.
We talked about those new Airbnb changes in BC the other week and then three Taylor Swift concerts next year highlight the challenges to hold such events. I was also told that the Kelowna areas will have a big fallout with tourism as that region relied so much on these short-term rental options. This fight is not over, and I know many lawyers are getting involved to fight back.
Finally, a new movie highlights quite the story that all of us old timers in the business remember so well. The Loewen Group started in Manitoba and then went across Canada with an aggressive buying strategy. They then went to the US and now probably do not wish they tried to buy some funeral homes in a certain county in Mississippi. Jamie Foxx and Tommy Lee Jones lead a great cast.
Have a great and memorable Remembrance Day Weekend and my money is on Winnipeg and Toronto in the semi-finals.

Failure of vehicle tests has caused the local snow removal company to revert to diesel-powered vehicles.
Number 10-The Burial
Inspired by true events, when a handshake deal goes sour, funeral homeowner Jeremiah O’Keefe (Academy Award winner Tommy Lee Jones) enlists charismatic, smooth-talking attorney Willie E. Gary (Academy Award winner Jamie Foxx) to save his family business. Tempers flare and laughter ensues as the unlikely pair bond while exposing corporate corruption and racial injustice in this inspirational, triumphant story.
We hope you found the Top Ten interesting this week, and are looking forward to another selection of articles, stories, and commentary next week. If you know of anyone else who would be interested in receiving our weekly note, please let me know.
