Top 10 Observations: Week of Oct 13th, 2023

By October 13, 2023 No Comments

Greetings,

This week, I intend to shift my focus towards a multitude of stories, deliberately steering clear of the harrowing events unfolding in the Middle East. Numerous individuals are already providing extensive coverage, and my heartfelt thoughts are with all those affected.

To kick things off, I’d like to delve into Peter Ziehan’s insights into the three primary reasons why Germany’s once-dominant global position is waning.

Doomberg has, in their own unique way, explored an intriguing narrative centered around Chevron’s efforts to contribute to a better world.

Recently, I had the pleasure of listening to a podcast featuring some exceptional guests, with Louis Vincent-Gave proving to be an exceptionally insightful commentator across a broad spectrum of subjects. They are both bullish on Central and South America and like the energy and uranium markets.

Evy Hambro made an appearance on Smarter Markets, offering invaluable insights. Meanwhile, Howard Marks provides crucial cautionary signals along with a treasure trove of remarkable quotes.

In the realm of financial analysis, Quoth the Raven contributed a compelling piece to Zero Hedge, suggesting that the precious metal markets present an attractive investment opportunity.

Brad Hayes of Big Media, renowned for his independent perspective in the energy sector, underscores the growing need for leaders possessing both wisdom and foresight during this ongoing energy transition.

A big decision this morning by the Supreme Court upholding a 1930 decision that the provinces control the resources they have. Smith and Moe will be happy and as one industry observer says:“Huge ruling…..Provinces telling Ottawa to pound sand on C-69 is ok with the top court.”

Shifting gears, let’s not forget the exhilaration of playoff baseball. Just the other night in Atlanta, a spectacular game-ending double play unfolded, serving as a testament to the enduring excitement of the sport.

Bruce Dowbiggin, in his latest piece, delves into the dawn of a new NHL season, a time when dreams of Stanley Cup glory ignite the hearts of fans, even though only one of the 32 teams will ultimately achieve that dream.

Number 10 -So, You Say There's A Chance? Watering Down The Product

The question that has to be asked in this reported rush to expand is the one Harry Sinden put to us years ago, WTF, quality of competition? The more teams in a league the lower the chances of even getting to a semifinal series let alone a championship. Fans in cities starved for a championship— the NFL’s Detroit Lions or Cleveland Browns are entering their seventh decade without a title or the Toronto Maple Leafs title-less since 1967— know how corrosive it can be
